Alan's parents came to the US from Iran. They were both originally from Hamadan (also known as the ancient city of Shushan from the Purim story). Alan's grandfather, Chai (of B"M') (whom Alan is named after) was very active in the Jewish community in Iran. Alan's father, Amir (Meir) (of B"M') came to the US in 1953 and worked in the textile industry for most of his career. Alan grew up in a traditional Jewish family. Over the years, Alan has been fortunate to learn with great rabbis on both east and west coasts.
